York of Sheltering Wings: "The world is geting smaller for sure. People from Kenya and Burkina Faso, Africa, now know that there is a huge catsup bottle in the city of Collinsville, Illinois, USA. Every year a group of Metro East residents pack as many crates as they can and fly to Africa with the purpose of reaching out to needy children, sharing the Gospel of the love of Jesus and bringing understanding between cultures. The children are part of the programs initiated by Sheltering Wings, a non-profit organization that provides funds for food, clothing, educational needs, and medical care for the children. Many of these are orphaned as a result of the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Last September Sheltering Wings was featured in a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article which helped with meeting the goal for 2002. There are now enough funds to complete the orphanage and clinic in Burkina, but money is still needed for a learning center and orphanage in Brazil. A Sheltering Wings sponsor is a person, family, or group that want to bless a needy child. Sponsors will receive a photo and profile of a child, and are strongly encouraged to write and build a relationship with him or her. Sheltering Wings staff will translate correspondences into French and back to English.) Thank you for your suport and prayers. For more information email Lea York. shelteringwings@charter.net. |
